Question:

Should I ignore my swelling, fatigue and pain?

I am a healthy 48 year old and have had MVPS  (mitral valve prolapse syndrome) for well over twenty five years. On my last echo 3 years ago it was noted that I had aortic stenosis as well. I honestly just kind of blew it off. Now I have noticed that my hands and lower legs are swollen in the morning and it takes all day to go down a little bit and I am more tired than I can say and had an episode of chest pain in my back under my shoulder two nights ago. Is this a sign of a problem? Frankly I am just trying to ignore it. Ignoring MVPS worked, do you think ignoring this will work?

Answer:

I believe these symptoms should not be ignored and may be due to aortic stenosis. I would suggest seeing a cardiologist and repeat of the echocardiogram at a minimum. Remember, chest pain should never be ignored.
