After completing subspecialty training in 1996, Dr. Stainback joined the Texas Heart Institute (THI) and Hall-Garcia Cardiology Associates. His primary endeavor has been private practice in general cardiology. He enjoys providing both office and hospital diagnosis and ongoing care for a wide variety of cardiovascular disease patients, including those with valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, chest pain, heart failure and arrhythmias.
Dr. Stainback has a national reputation as Medical Director of Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging and the Adult Echocardiography Laboratory at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, home of the Texas Heart Institute. He believes that his patients benefit from his ongoing experience as a published clinical researcher and mentor for THI cardiology and cardiac anesthesia training programs. A special clinical interest is stress testing for coronary and valve disease, and intraoperative transesophageal echo imaging to evaluate the success of valve and congenital cardiac surgery repair.
His research interests have included exploration of cutting-edge cardiac ultrasound imaging techniques; correlation of echo, cardiac MR and cardiac CT images, and the evaluation of left ventricular assist device function.
A longstanding area of commitment has been teaching and “quality in cardiovascular imaging”. St. Luke’s was the first accredited echocardiography laboratory in Texas, and Dr. Stainback currently represents the American Society of Echocardiography as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). He serves on the Quality committee for the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and as section editor for the THI Journal “Images in Cardiovascular Medicine.”
