Using own skin cells to repair hearts on horizon
Robert Schwartz, University of HoustonRobert Schwartz, Cullen Distinguished Professor of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Houston, has pioneered a breakthrough technique for turning ordinary human skin cells into early-stage heart cells. Read the news release from the University of Houston. (March 2, 2010) Schwartz is a member of the THI professional staff and director of stem cell engineering for the Stem Cell and Heart Failure Research Laboratory.

One Woman's Story of a New HeartWanda Alexander talks about her new heart.

View the video (7 min.) that tells Wanda Alexander's story. After waiting on the transplant list for years, she received a new healthy heart just 4 months ago at the Texas Heart Institute. Dr. Stephanie Coulter, THI cardiologist, helps tell the story for the CBS show, The Doctors, and the video features THI transplant team members Dr. Bud Frazier and Dr. Roberta Bogaev along with Wanda's family.
